What is career counseling?

According to the Wikipedia “Career Counseling is a type of counseling that combines all types of professionals advising where counselors combine gives advice on their topic of expertise with counseling techniques that support clients in making complex decisions and facing difficult situation focused on issues like career exploration. Career change, personal career change, and another career-related issue. To simplify “Career Counseling is the counseling technique of advising people to take decisions which are based on their career.”


WHY IS IT NEEDED?

In the context of Nepal, the S.E.E (secondary level) study for students is similar and after that, there is variation in the subject’s selections which causes a dilemma in students. Science, management, humanities, and much more subject can be a hard decision for a student to take without proper guidance and career information. Many of the students end up selecting the wrong subject which eventually leads them to get the career that they don’t want. I too was in dilemma once. There is an only organization working on career counseling named “Career Disha Nepal”   and a lot of professionals who provide career guidance to the students but not all students can access this facility. So feeling the need for career information to rural areas students, I initiated the project “Career Counseling “as a startup project in my 12th standard. My plan simply was to reach those students and advise them on career subject selection.😊



HOW DID I DO IT?

  First thing I needed to do was create materials for the project as everyone knows lecture is boring. I wanted students to participate in the project so, with the help of Dr. Dirgha Raj Joshi, we created a leaflet which contained a detail information of ideas we wanted to share in pictorial form and we also created some questions for students participation.. Also to choose the places we wanted to go, I took the help from my friends and decided we will be going to two districts Okhaldhunga and Dhading. In this way, the preparation for the project was done.



WHERE DID WE DO IT?
We first went to Okhaldhunga on Magh, 2074 along with my college mates and conducted the career counseling program in various five schools there. The schools are listed below:

Therein Okhaldhunga first we arranged a meeting with the school committee and explained to them about our project. they were kind enough to allow us to conduct our project which led us to the completion of the project in various five schools in Okhaldhunga.

We then went to Dhading with my schoolmates and conducted career counseling program in two various schools on Ashad, 2075. The schools are listed below:

In Dhading, we first talked to the school heads through phone-call and after being confirmed, we went on ahead and completed our project.
